Um. [A throat-clearing, a clanking of metal.] If anyone is interested in current events from - October 9, 2006... I found a newspaper.

[Long pause.] I'm not the only one - seeing things, am I? I thought I was just hallucinating, but the newspaper seems pretty real...

It's like a strange half-shift. Things are there, only not... Do you think it's a good thing, Professor? If the Malnosso have figured out how to open these 'windows' to our worlds, maybe they've almost learned how to send us home.

I don't believe the Malnosso are in control of these particular shifts. They seemed concerned about them, from what I could tell. Quite a few people have been sent home during these past few months, however... we'll just have to wait and see.

You did have an interesting way of looking at it, though. Windows to our worlds... hm.

Yes... opening a rift to another place is very difficult. My world can't really do it yet. But to poke through the fabric, to be able to see the other side, or have things travel back and forth in an uncontrolled way - that's an important first step.

[Wait, thinking...] Professor, do you think we could use these shifts? If the door is already halfway open, maybe the residents here could pool their talents to focus the openings enough for some people to get home.

At the very least, we can keep an eye on the situation. Even if it's halfway, we still don't know anything about how it works, or even the first inkling of where to start. We might end up doing more harm than good.
