To all of you from post-1776 America, happy Fourth of July. [Thoughtful pause.] Well, I suppose it's the fourth of July for everyone else too... I hope you're all having a nice day.

Um. [A throat-clearing, a clanking of metal.] If anyone is interested in current events from - October 9, 2006... I found a newspaper.

[Long pause.] I'm not the only one - seeing things, am I? I thought I was just hallucinating, but the newspaper seems pretty real...

Where's the newspaper from? [This is clearly the most relevant question]

It's the New York Times.

I haven't seen you in a while.

That's unusual, given our living situation. [That said, he's been hanging out at Fort Ferines so much lately he might as well live there... or well, hanging around it. The point is in the general area. Hm.]

But it has been a while, hasn't it?

I was kidnapped, spent a week being apathetic about everything, and then just stayed at home. What about you?

I was drowning on air a while back.

... Is that a metaphor for something?

Afraid not. It was a pretty stressful situation.

Was it some kind of experiment?

I got infected by something called a mushi.

By a what?

Apparently they're supernatural bugs.

Bugs as in insects?

The very same.

A supernatural insect infected you with - [Hey, wait a minute. This is sounding kind of like something his brothers told him. Or tried to avoid telling him, really.] Saijo-san, I don't think I want to talk about this.

Alright. [A beat before- go go gadget subject change]

So what's in the news in '06?

[You can hear him turning some pages of the newspaper.]

The stock market is doing well, the World Series is coming up later this month, and there are no good movies playing.

No good ones? That's too bad.

Certainly nothing worth sneaking into. I don't think I would even go out of my way to watch any of these on TV.

Ouch. That bad, huh? [He even chuckles a little at that]

Then what type of movie do you like?

I'm a fan of movies with a slow build-up, or with ambiguous endings... movies you have to think about.

I really liked "A Beautiful Mind".

Somehow, those types of films seem to suit you. [A beat-] I can't say I'm an avid movie person though.

No, generally I like books better. But movies are easier to get.

Must be loving the library here in that case.

I won't deny I've spent some happy afternoons there. ['Afternoons' is probably an understatement.]

I've had some fun times there too.
