Fortieth Theory [Written]

March 3. Weather colder than I had hoped. Snowsuit good idea, must try to replicate at home. Did a lot of thinking and made campsite by mid-afternoon. Worked through remaining daylight.

March 4. Meditated all day. Nothing.

March 5. Meditated all day. Nothing.

March 6. Meditated all day. Revising prior analysis of "nothing" -- am much better at meditating than I used to be.

March 7. Went hiking today. Weather much warmer. Area, and views from it, very interesting. Really is an ocean now -- would like to go there in the summer. Thought about a lot of things. Watched the stars come out. Talked to Derek. Missing family and friends but not ready to go back yet.

March 8. Meditated again. Think I made contact.

March 9. The string moved!

March 9 - Later. Master Splinter here. Talked to him and Mikey. Have permission to finish what I came here to do, but will have a lot to explain when I get home. Must remain focused - can't stay away from my family like this for nothing.

March 10. Feel wonderful. Want to talk to Master Splinter about so many things, but still not ready to go back.

March 11. Much progress today.

March 12. Tried using magic with bo. Liked results.

March 13. Walked today, communicated with spirit. Should have come here months ago. Understand a lot now. Ready to go home.

[Mike will pounce on the bush, and come up spluttering.]

CHEATER.

[He dashes toward the sound before Mike can regain his bearings, then takes a flying leap! If he's distracted enough, Mike can consider himself tackled.]

Gotcha!

[Tackled and face down in the dirt.]

Phbbllth!

No fair! You cheated! I'm telling!

[Raph goes to pin both of Mikey's arms and sit on his shell. Yeah. Raph is freaking heavy.] Fair? Who said anything about fair? You started it.

[Oh hell.]

Raph... Raph, get off me!

[That steak is making it's presence known. Why oh why did he have to eat that huge glob of wasabi?]

[He grins wolfishly.] Not 'til you tell me who your favorite brother is.

[Hrk.]

[Watch out Raph. Here it comes.]

[Oh, boy. That steak doesn't look so appetizing on its way back up.]

Maybe having all the food we want isn't such a good thing.

[Man, that's... kind of sad. And it makes Raph feel kind of embarrassed he forgot how unused to good food their bodies used to be. But it's definitely not the first time any of them have eaten themselves sick. Back home, April used to kill them with kindness pretty much every holiday she could find an excuse. And it's not like they could say no. Anything that smells great, looks edible, and isn't fished out of a dumpster is like mana sent down from heaven, even without a well-meaning redhead smothering you with good intentions.

Also makes Raph feel guilty that he's not even that full. It's kind of scary, actually.]

[It's not your fault. Mike's used to being a bottomless pit. He didn't expect it to be this bad.

What sort of stuff did you make there?

That whole shelf in the bedroom's what I made myself. Lot of shuriken, mostly. But I gotta say, those manriki are pretty baddass.

[Well now you've done it. He had been admiring the workmanship earlier, not knowing it was yours.]

He told me. I guess it was right before Donnie left.

[Is he trying to imply Don leaving wasn't your fault?]

I really didn't want to know that.

[He's too busy trying to purge his brain of all mental images to make any kind of connection.]

But Raphie, I-

[He is right up there with the mental images thing. But Mike's thinking ahead for once.]

Are we- I mean, are we okay with this? Donnie being gay and all?

When he comes back-

[-are we going to be happy for him?

Or are we going to disown him?]

[That tone makes him regain most of his composure. He sighs.]

I don't know. I'm just kind of playin' it by ear right now.

[Like he plays it any other way.]

[That in turn makes Mike realize how stupid he was being. Like they would ever disown one of their own for something like that. It's just something to get used to. No big deal. No big deal at all.]

Well, Robert seems pretty okay. HUGEST nerd ever, but who else would Donnie go for, anyway? And he's from the future, so mutant turtles aren't a big deal.

I invited him over sometime for movie night.

You seen that guy in person? He's like a white Urkle in a lab coat only without the funny.

[He goes quiet for a second, thinking.]

I think the guy had his sense of humor surgically removed at birth.

Dude, Donnie's a big turtle. He's lucky to be with anyone. If anything, you should be asking if Robbie's desperate.
