[Don pries himself off the table and wanders around the room in search of something to do. When the search proves fruitless, he returns and starts making complicated origami with the extra index cards.]

[Meanwhile, Robert has written a sentence that maybe works better for those who are science impaired.]

"Donatello has difficulty... speaking understandably"...

[It seems a little unspecific, though.]

[Shakes his head - still too hard. Remember there are people in the village who can barely read, Robert.]

"Difficulty talking"? [Seriously, he doesn't know how much simpler he can make this.]

[Robert, asking Don for synonyms is not going to be an effective strategy right now.]

[Damn.]

... Simple language is... n-not my best skill. [He stares at the paper again, trying to think of how to condense the meaning into something even smaller than that.]

"Donatello cannot... talk well..."?

[Don thinks this over before making another suggestion.]

No 'Donatello'. I.

[Yes. The way he would say it to someone, if he could.]

[Hmm.]

"I'm having difficulty talking right now"? [The contraction is obviously foreign to Robert, but it would be something Don would use.]

[Don turns this over in his mind, then nods. A good start.]

[semper_cogitans]

[Robert then brings up a fresh index card, one that hasn't been written on yet, and carefully pens this sentence.

He then turns to the one he's re-written multiple times to begin the second sentence.]

... Shall I... rewrite the others similarly?

[Yes. You do that. Meanwhile, Don will fold some complicated geometrical figures.]

[They are beautiful figures. Robert is tempted to watch more closely, but he needs to pay attention to his writing.

Murmuring half-to-himself:]

"I'm also having trouble... with my writing"? [He's hesitating as he speaks, but when he says them, he puts familiar intonations into them, trying to speak them like Don would. Robert has never been good at creative writing; therefore, the most literal interpretation (and thus the most accessible one to him) of this exercise is to literally try to sound like Don as he writes and recites.]

[Don is skidding the figures across the table as he finishes them, so that they pile up at Robert's elbow.]

[He looks up in surprise at this - he had no idea that Robert noticed his cadences enough to mimic them.]

[semper_cogitans]

[There aren't many people who Robert has heard the voice of as may times as Don's, and there are even fewer people who Robert cares this much about - cares enough to memorize the sounds in an attempt to understand how Don thinks and feels. Only with Benjamin and his parents did he ever try this hard before.]

... Is... is that... c-correct?

[Obviously, he can't interpret the looks Don gives quite that well.]

[He blinks, and nods. Sounds good.]

[Okay. He's going to write that down then.

Give him awhile to come up with the others though. Also for the mun to cross-reference with other threads so he doesn't write the wrong sentence.]

[Don watches with interest. What else can Robert think of?]
