Beetroot is traditionally used for coloring, but originally the red came from the anthocyanin in the cocoa powder.

Really? I guess a natural ingredient would effect the cake less than food coloring.

I'm from a town called Mystic Falls in Virgina. And I don't think I'm qualified to answer. It hasn't really effected me. [ yet. she'll later wake up with her boyfriend's body (http://adeadringer.livejournal.com/5913.html) instead of her own. ] I know my friend doesn't like it.
