Forty-Second Theory [Voice/Action for Housemates]

[Don is feeling a little claustrophobic today. The number of vehicles he has stashed in his workroom has increased to five over the past week, and he's running out of room to build more. He'd been hoping that the wet, overcast weather would break so he could take his work outside, but that didn't exactly pan out. It is sunny today, but it's also unseasonably cold.]

[Determined to continue his work anyway, Don has shoved all the furniture out of the way and set up camp in the living room, surrounded by a mass of lightweight canvas and metal struts. Hang-glider Number Four is now Under Construction.]

[It's been quite some time since he asked a general question over the journals, so he decides to do so now. Companionable conversation is just what he needs to make the repetitive work go faster.]

If you had access to Shifting technology, and could change something about the world - what would you do? How long would you make it last?

[He also has some things he wants to talk about with Mike and Master Splinter - separately, that is. If they don't stop by while he's working, he'll be looking for them later.]

[Splinter recognizes the glider for what it is. He's seen them on some news report. Well, perhaps not quite like this one.]

... You will attempt to fly with them?

[He supposes these are not nearly as dangerous as the rocket jetpacks. Small miracles and all that.]

[He doeesn't know about the rocket jetpacks yet.]

I've only ever used these in the city. I can't wait to see what the mountains look like from the air.

[Splinter considers that a good thing.

He smiles softly.]

You will have to tell me what it is like.

[Because there's no way in hell you're getting him onto one of those things. ... easily, anyways.]

[Come on, Sensei, he's not leaving you grounded.]

I'm building enough for all of us.

F-For all of us?

[You're going to make him get on one of those?]

[i_speak_softly]

Sure. This is number four, and then I'm making another two. [He looks around at the mess in the living room.] Not today, though.

[ninjacane]

I... see. [He's serious.] And whom is the sixth for?

[i_speak_softly]

A friend? [You know. Some friend, that they might like to invite with them.]

[ninjacane]

[Eyebrow.]

Robert?

[i_speak_softly]

Or... someone else... ? [This isn't very convincing, is it.]

[ninjacane]

Mr. Hastings?

[No, it wasn't.]

I suspected as much.

[Splinter's still getting used to this... human male with his son thing, but he's trying. Really.]

Are you sure he will be willing to use one of these contraptions? It may be far outside of his comfort zone....

He said he would!

[He's paraphrasing.]

[Splinter suspects as much. Robert seems to have lived an extremely sheltered life, and he's fairly certain that hang gliding was not part of it.]

Trying means that he will attempt it. It does not mean that he will go through with it.

[It's said gently enough.]

If you wish to take him, you must give him adequate instructions. He likely has never experienced anything like this on Terra.

[i_speak_softly]

I won't let him get hurt.

[He picks up the backpack the glider will go in, and starts working on the safety straps.]

[ninjacane]

I know you will not.

[Splinter just wants to make sure Don is thinking things through. Don is much better at planning things ahead than dealing with things at the spur of the moment. If he is, then Splinter hopes he has nothing to worry about.]

[Don's fingers twitch nervously at the idea, and then he throws himself back into his work.]

[Splinter watches for a bit.]

... When do you plan on taking our family to the mountains?

[i_speak_softly]

In a few weeks? I need time to finish these...

[ninjacane]

[Splinter nods at that comment--sounds good. He'll keep it in mind.]

It will be warmer then.

[Better for his sons.]
