Forty-Second Theory [Voice/Action for Housemates]

[Don is feeling a little claustrophobic today. The number of vehicles he has stashed in his workroom has increased to five over the past week, and he's running out of room to build more. He'd been hoping that the wet, overcast weather would break so he could take his work outside, but that didn't exactly pan out. It is sunny today, but it's also unseasonably cold.]

[Determined to continue his work anyway, Don has shoved all the furniture out of the way and set up camp in the living room, surrounded by a mass of lightweight canvas and metal struts. Hang-glider Number Four is now Under Construction.]

[It's been quite some time since he asked a general question over the journals, so he decides to do so now. Companionable conversation is just what he needs to make the repetitive work go faster.]

If you had access to Shifting technology, and could change something about the world - what would you do? How long would you make it last?

[He also has some things he wants to talk about with Mike and Master Splinter - separately, that is. If they don't stop by while he's working, he'll be looking for them later.]

Okay, Mr. Mulder, but assuming the technology requires more specific inputs, what parameters would you change to accomplish that?

Excellent question, Don... I have always wondered something similar myself.

My first priority would be to research the technology, actually... to ensure its use is not damaging in any way, before running clinical trials.

Assuming it passed those trials, I can certainly see applications in the medical field, especially for those who are uncomfortable with their bodies - sort of like a more comprehensive version of surgery. I myself would likely put it towards first-hand experiences of various body types, to better analyze data... Being a turtle briefly was certainly enlightening in that regard.

[Curiously:] What prompted this particular thought experiment?

We did have access to shifting technology, of a sort, back where I'm from. It was unstable at best, potentially catastrophic at worst. I wouldn't muck about with it if I had it here, except maybe to try and send people home.

[Remember this brother? The brother who's barely said two words to you in a month? He's walking right past you like you don't even exist. He was gonna watch a movie, but guess that's out of the question. So he'll head to the kitchen like he meant to go there all along. But he's probably not as subtle as he thinks.

This's about as passive-aggressive as Raph can get. The silent treatment. And all those times he just so happened to be "distracted" during training these past few weeks? How they were just conveniently timed to let Don take a hit while he was supposed to be watching his back. Funny how that works.]
