[Don is feeling a little claustrophobic today. The number of vehicles he has stashed in his workroom has increased to five over the past week, and he's running out of room to build more. He'd been hoping that the wet, overcast weather would break so he could take his work outside, but that didn't exactly pan out. It is sunny today, but it's also unseasonably cold.]

[Determined to continue his work anyway, Don has shoved all the furniture out of the way and set up camp in the living room, surrounded by a mass of lightweight canvas and metal struts. Hang-glider Number Four is now Under Construction.]

[It's been quite some time since he asked a general question over the journals, so he decides to do so now. Companionable conversation is just what he needs to make the repetitive work go faster.]

If you had access to Shifting technology, and could change something about the world - what would you do? How long would you make it last?

[He also has some things he wants to talk about with Mike and Master Splinter - separately, that is. If they don't stop by while he's working, he'll be looking for them later.]

If it was more than just hypothetical? I don't know.

Change itself isn't always a bad thing. It's the methods that matter. Understanding the scope of what you want to accomplish.

What brought the question to mind, if I may ask?

... Ah. [The mention of it makes her think of Raphael, whom she hadn't seen after the incident in which she ended up in a tree.] I suppose it was a thought provoking one, in some ways.

... Yes. [He's not sure how much he wants to say about that.]

[Hm. She tilts her head--and adds an unhackable filter.] Am I making you uncomfortable? I apologize.

[He studies that filter for a long minute.]

Can I tell you something, Professor?

Yes, of course you may. [She's a listener type, after all.]

I - [Deep breath. You can trust Miss Sage.] I'm in love with someone. He - he said he wished he could be a Turtle for me. The Malnosso made him one for the experiment...

I... don't know if I would have wanted him to stay that way.

Would that make a difference in how you felt about him?

It did. But it wasn't me. I mean, it was the other me.

... I'm afraid you've lost me a little. [She doesn't really know about his experience with the 'love' event, so when she thinks other him, she thinks of a further away time. A different issue.]

[Another pause.] If you don't mind me asking, Professor... are you half-human? Or not human at all?

[The question surprises her, but at the same time it doesn't. It had been some time since that hint, after all.

And she really should take more of the effort to not hide it, when she was encouraging others to do the same. In Luceti it was something not really questioned, at least. Maybe that was a problem in itself.]

... Half, yes. I'm half-elven.

El... [An elf? He wouldn't have guessed that.] Do you ever feel like you're two people?

[She's quiet for a moment. No one's ever really asked that directly before--if at all. Where to even begin, at how much of a duality she felt was her life?]

In a sense, yes. Humans and elves have many differences... so half elves end up with a blend of some of those traits. I can categorize some of them, but the traits on their own don't really define a whole person.

No, they don't. I just think... that I never learned to accept all of mine.

[This is something he doesn't talk about much either.]

Accepting is... the strangest part of all of it. We're always so busy looking for acceptance from the outside that we neglect to realize that it starts within ourselves. If you can't make peace there, you'll always be searching.

How can you reconcile those aspects? They're all a part of you, one way or the other.

[Wide-eyed silence. It's like his window on the world just turned five degrees, and he can see things he couldn't see before. Only a tiny sliver of those things, but they change the meaning of everything he's known.]

[She's quiet herself for a few moments, letting him think on that. Reflecting a little on her own realizations.]

[He doesn't think self-acceptance would have helped him much at home, but it might be just what he's been missing here in Luceti. He needs to break down a few walls.]

Your father? No... I wasn't aware of that. [All she knew was that he was someone she did want to meet, sometime.] Was he brought in one of the recent cycles?
