Fifty-Fifth Theory [Voice/Action]

[Don has been returned from his mission with the Malnosso. In this case, that means that his guide-droid politely but firmly made it clear to him that sorry, but he had to leave.]

[His journal is returned to him, he's shown to a teleporter, and a moment later he's standing in the village's coffee shop. After getting something - well, a number of somethings - to eat, he settles into a booth and opens said journal.]

Oh, yes, Hiccup has heard of those. He has heard of those and he is very curious as to why they're being mentioned by someone he doesn't know all of a sudden.]

The Malnosso just sent me to a library and told me to organize notes about them. [But who cares about notes?] What are they like in real life?

R-really? The Malnosso had you do that? [Oh man. He hopes he has notes he can see or something.] They're, um--well? They're...dragon-y. Not quite as fast and intelligent as Toothless, but they magnificent creatures.

[He wasn't allowed to take anything, but that doesn't mean he can't copy what he read from memory.]

[He's trying to hear "toothless" as an adjective, so this sentence isn't parsing well.] Fast, intelligent, and what?

Uhh--well. [Hmm. Where to start with this.] Did you learn about Night Furies at all?

Very little. The books said no one has ever seen one.

Wait, was--was it the viking's dragon training guide?

... It may have been?

[He didn't pay much attention to the title.]

It said the exact same thing in our dragon book. Nothing about Night Furies. But I know about them because I have one.

Yeah. He's my best friend. I met him and trained him back on Berk.

[Confused about the nature of this relationship.] Trained him in what?

In...not habitually attacking every viking he sees? All of the dragons are that way now, actually.

They have to be trained to not attack people?

Well--not anymore! They only attacked us because we attacked them. But we don't do that anymore, so they don't either.

Why... did you stop?

[Not in the sense of "Why would you ever do that", but with the suspicion that the reason for stopping will shed a lot of light on the whole dragon/viking situation.]

Well, they were only attacking our village and stealing our food because of this big queen bee dragon. We called it the Green Death.

The books didn't mention a Green Death...

I'm not surprised. We didn't even know it existed until just recently.

So the dragons attacked the vikings because the vikings attacked them because they were stealing food because someone else was making them.

[This is almost as convoluted as his own family's feud with the Foot clan.]
