[The video feed clicks on, and Don looks thoughtfully at the camera for a moment before speaking.]

Another Christmas in Luceti.

[His tone is direct, just stating a fact, but somewhere behind it is a note of melancholy.]

This is my third. All of them have been in this house. All of them have been with different people.

[He slides back from the journal, revealing a corner of his winter room. He's been gradually moving into it over the past week, and has more or less taken up residence now.]

I've seen a lot of people come and go. There probably aren't many left who remember when Luceti didn't have electricity.

[He picks up some small bit of tech and squints at it.]

When I arrived here, the drafts were just starting. There were no missions. The Battle Dome didn't exist. We didn't have a farm and there was a desert where the ocean is now.

[He carefully threads a length of wire through a hole in the tech part.]

The buildings were shorter. Some of the stores and restaurants weren't open. [A pause.] I think I'm forgetting things...

[The wire slides through, and he knots the loose ends to form a loop.]

Does anyone remember other things that have changed? Or, does anyone want a history lesson? I'll be here all day.

Oh, those. You should ask the other people who have them. I thought they just showed up sometimes, but there may be other ways of getting them.

From what I've heard three of them come with their trainers and that's that, but.. it'd be nice to have all of them.

So how often can you go on missions anyways?

I think as often as you want to sign up.

What's the big deal about Pokemon? Why do people have so many of them?

Oh, that's useful!

Well, the people who have pokemon come from a world that revolves around them. Everything happens around them, from jobs, hobbies, just life. Usually people have a lot more than three in a team.

Also here, Gold and everyone breed some for others I'm sure.

[He doesn't quite get it.]

Is it a form of agriculture?

Agriculture? No, it's more like... pets. Animals.

But it's a job?

If you decide to become a breeder, a Pokemon professor, gym leader, and more. There are a lot of jobs that involve Pokemon. Even if you don't have a job involving Pokemon, you can still train and take care of them. [if that makes sense.]

[Wait go back.]

Pokemon professor?

Yup! A Pokemon Professor, they spend their lives studying Pokemon things. [She's not all clued in on the details, since, well, she never wanted to be one.]

So is that like being a biologist?

Something of the sort, I'm not one myself so I can't say for sure. All I know about Professor Oak's career is that he helped make the Pokedex and observes Pokemon.

I think it's like a biologist with benefits of sorts.

Is Professor Oak here?

Fortunately not, but his grandson is. I'm sure that he knows much more about it than I do.

I'd like to meet him.

[But oh, right, he's talking to you now.]

What do you do with Pokemon, Blue?

I'll be glad to introduce you two sometime.

[What does she do with Pokemon.]

Well, I'm a trainer. I train them and they help me every day when I need it. We fight battles together too.

[Cautiously:]

Is it like a martial art?

A martial arts? No, nothing like that. I don't really know how to fight by myself. [unless she has to do so somehow anyways.]

But you train them to fight? [...] Or do those two things not go together?

[hrmm, what could be a better way to explain this.]

Well, Pokemon can fight on their own using special abilities. For example, my Blastoise is a water Pokemon; it can pump water out of it's shell cannons to attack. [or fly] You train them to better use their abilities and learn new attacks.

[Cautiously intrigued:] Shell cannons?

Blastoise is like a giant tortoise or turtle, so on it's shell it has a pair of cannons that can blast water out of them. It's really useful, and other than that it almost looks like a normal tortoise. [except it's blue and a pokemon.]

... How can I get some.

[Blue giggles.]

I'm not sure that you can, Blastoise gained them when he evolved from Wartortle.
