Sokka. I'm embarrassed that I didn't ask you any useful questions last week, and I'm downright ashamed that I haven't made it to the smithy yet. I need to start making up for these things, and I'm going to do that right now, by asking - what kind of materials and facilities do you have?

I'd - like to learn about magic. Not that I want to learn magic, but I've heard that's possible here, and... I just want to know... what kind of feats can be performed with these elemental abilities?

Also, if anyone here had magic in their own world, and their powers still work in Luceti - I'd like to hear about that too.

Well, I picked up healing and Faeren's magic pretty quickly.

Thought I'd try lightning, next. I've been working at it for a few days-- it's a tricky thing.

You were wondering what kinds of things can be learned, here? But-- you're not interested in learning, yourself?

No. I don't get mixed up in things like that. When I can avoid it.

Didn't think there was much to avoid in having the power to mend broken bones and prevent infection. And that without a price to pay.

Is magic so dangerous, where you're from?

Magic has never done any good for my family. [Pause.] Okay, that's not true. But it's a comparatively short list.

That's right. I heard about that...incident.

To be honest with you, though-- I think the word "magic" here is pretty meaningless. There are so many things that we aren't used to in our own homes, that are commonplace in other worlds.

Perhaps it would be best to take Filial magic on it's own terms, ehh? That's really all we can do with anything in this place. [He feels pretty strongly that everyone should learn healing magic...and not inclined to be subtle about it.]

If you've heard about one incident, then you are far from knowing the whole story.

That is true. Other worlds can have different technology, or be inhabited by people with different physical abilities... it's even possible that in some worlds the laws of nature are different.

I'm still not interested in these 'spirits', though. Conventional medicine is all the magic I need. Give me a decent infirmary and watch me work miracles.

Oh-- I certainly wouldn't assume I know even half of it.

[he smiles at that last statement] Ahh. I suppose I'm just used to stepping in when the conventional medicine fails. Different kinds of miracles.

Frankly, as much as I think everyone should take advantage of what Nala has to offer, I'm glad to here someone has knowledge not dependent on magic.

It's always good to have a back-up plan, when your first miracle fails.

Is there a shortage of that here? My knowledge of human medicine is mostly theoretical, but I could try...

I wouldn't know for sure-- there may be a good deal of both. My own is pretty theoretical in that field, too.

But I'm sure whatever you know will be useful, magical or otherwise.

Well, there's a clinic in town-- but I'm afraid I don't know who runs it. I'm not often around.
