[Don is feeling a little claustrophobic today. The number of vehicles he has stashed in his workroom has increased to five over the past week, and he's running out of room to build more. He'd been hoping that the wet, overcast weather would break so he could take his work outside, but that didn't exactly pan out. It is sunny today, but it's also unseasonably cold.]

[Determined to continue his work anyway, Don has shoved all the furniture out of the way and set up camp in the living room, surrounded by a mass of lightweight canvas and metal struts. Hang-glider Number Four is now Under Construction.]

[It's been quite some time since he asked a general question over the journals, so he decides to do so now. Companionable conversation is just what he needs to make the repetitive work go faster.]

If you had access to Shifting technology, and could change something about the world - what would you do? How long would you make it last?

[He also has some things he wants to talk about with Mike and Master Splinter - separately, that is. If they don't stop by while he's working, he'll be looking for them later.]

So have you figured out yet what the Malnosso are up to?

Really. [Cautiously curious. He doesn't really believe you, but if you do know anything, he wants to hear it.]

Okay, I'll bite. What are your theories?

Well that depends how you define "up to" - it's obvious they're the central power in this world outside the barrier, we can infer that the world outside the barrier probably isn't a lie because of the fact there's so much evidence supporting it, and we know we're in the barrier. Based on what Jacob told us back in the day, it stands the reason that the primary reason for experiments isn't studying the reactions we have or the results of the Shifts on us, but more how the Shifts work with different people - that means that they're still imprecise and refining Shift technology in several respects, right? Baring that in mind, we're also kept away from the natural shifts outside, and given what the Third Party guys are apparently like... they're probably opposing some outside force beyond the TPs and we're an untested weapon to oppose it. After all, some force or something had to to create the singularity of this world.

Hm. [That sounds reasonable.] So the Malnosso are trying to figure out how to send us home, but first they're going to make us fight their war?

Well I don't know if it's war or not, but why do you think the Party ended up omnicidal? There has to be something really bad outside the barrier which needs to be defeated or destroyed or whatever. Given the Malnosso aren't the ones which bring us to Luceti in the first place - well, ignoring inside the barrier - there has to be some other force doing that. It's probably also what blocks any control over who goes home or not.

Maybe they just hate outsiders.

That's assuming there are natives. I doubt if there are natives, let alone that they're the TPs.
